Lhaki Cement
NAME OF COMPANY: LHAKI CEMENT
ACTIVITY: MANUFACTURING OF CEMENT
HISTORY: The 1970′s ……A season of change for everyone. Gigantic shifts in the global economy, technology, education and the market place prompted an otherwise fiercely independent nation to open its doors to the outside world. Bhutan, the Land of the Thunder Dragon broke from its traditional isolation to become a member of the United Nations in 1971.
Under the leadership of His Majesty, the King of Bhutan, Jigme Dorji Wangchuk and thereafter of his son- His Majesty, the King of Bhutan, Jigme Singye Wangchuk, with his dynamic and farsighted vision, Bhutan recognized the need to modernize and industrialize the Kingdom, while at the same time protecting its inherent culture and ethos to lead the nation into the new millennium, without losing its independent sprit.
Several areas of development were identified-such as the building of its infrastructure, modernization through industrialization, encouragement of the private sector and entrepreneurship, and the opening of its doors to outside trade and education.
Through this encouragement of the Royal Government the Lhaki Group of Companies was promoted by Dasho Ugyen Dorji, in the late 80s. The Group initially started its venture with the Construction and Manufacturing of Cement.
In the Process, Lhaki Cement was established in the year 1989-90. The unit commenced commercial production in the year 1993 with 2 VSKs of 50 TPD each. The plant was augmented in the year 1995-96 with an additional VSK of 40 TPD whereby the total Clinker Capacity of the plant reached to 140 TPD.
The plant further augmented its cement grinding capacity in the year 2000-2001 by installing an additional cement mill. With this the total cement girding capability was increased to 350 TPD.
In the year 2007 the promoters resolved to upgrade the technology as well as the capacity of the plant by installing 450 TPD dry process rotary plant through retrofitting. The augmentation project is presently under progress and it is expected that commercial production from the augmented plant would commence by the first quarter of 2009.
